My husband and I saved a calico cat, who we name Allie, from a troubled home. She was about 6 months old at the time. She was so skinny and scared when she came home with us. At first I didn't think that she wasn't the cat for us, but after a few days she proved us wrong. She is the sweetest, most loving and beautiful animal I have ever met. She is "mamma's baby" and my husband loves her to death. I think she is going to be one big cat. She is growing bigger by the day and she has the cute chubby checks with her big green eyes The cutest thing she does is in the mornings. I don't like to get up for work and she knows it. So after I push my snooze button for the 3rd time she jumps on my bed, starts nuzzling my face and does her cute little meow to let me know its time to get up. And when I get home she is sitting in my window just waiting for me to walk though the door.

Thank you so much for this article! Now I know I am not alone when I talk to my dog... I always ask her which collar she would like to wear today! And... pet treats take up most of my kitchen counter space. Sad but true! I knew there were other people out there like me when I recently stayed at a pet friendly beach resort in Myrtle Beach because they had a doggie treat welcome table set up in the lobby! So cute!

Although I laughed at this article... yes, I find myself doing a few of the things that were mentioned. HOWEVER, I do find that most times my dogs are better listeners AND they always love me unconditionally, no matter what kind of mood I am in or what kind of day I have had. My dogs ALWAYS put a smile on my face and make me feel happy and loved. There's a lot to be said about spending a lot of time with your pets. They make you feel good about yourself and they don't judge you for any mistakes you may have made. I love my dogs and they will always be an important part of my life. I strive to be a good person to everyone (not just to my pets). I always try to be the person that my dogs see me as. So I say..."continue to love your pets! Hang out with them as much as you can because if they make you feel great, then there is nothing wrong with that". There are worse things in life that you can do...

Think maybe you meant "placemats" (of course she has her own) and not "placentas" in #3. Have you been peaking in my window?

Our dog is Riley, which usually shows up as one of the most common dog's names--the rescue agency had given him that name and he was already answering to it, so we couldn't imagine taking it away--he had so little when we got him. So he has kept it and now has his self confidence back. We are so glad that we adopted and bless the lady who runs the agency for bailing him out of the Canton, Ohio, dog pound.

But I am glad that at least Riley wasn't one of the most common for 2011!

Yes, i totally agree with Susan, especially on the food subject. I feed my cat Weruva as wet food and Artemis as dry food. They're not advertised on TV but they are some of the best foods out there, grain free. I wish people would research more and stop buying the big name brands which are not necesarilly great for their pets.
And also, i'd recommend buy health insurance for pets early on so when people are faced with hard decissions, at least it will give them a little bit more peace of mind and keep their pets longer. Believe me, it helps a lot. I know so many that gave their pet away to some shelter when they couldn't care for them any longer or they are faced with the hardest decission of it all when the vet bills become sky rocketing and shelters don't/can't take the pet in at that point in their life.
I will never have a pet without health insurance. I wish they could live forever but the reality is we outlive our pets. Let's provide them a long, healthy, happy life. They reward us in so many ways that humans never can.
