Dog Events in May

There are plenty of activities for you and your dog to participate in this month. If you are looking for something to do in the upcoming weekends where you and your family can go and meet other dog lovers, watch some amazing dogs do their tricks, and show off your own lovable pup, check with your local events calendar. If you’re near or in any of these cities, check out the events listed below. You’ll definitely have a great time.

Portland, Or: Doggy Dash 2012 is scheduled for May 12, 2012 from 8am to 1pm. It’s $25 to register for you and your dog to walk or run. Come help the Oregon Humane Society and be one of the thousands who celebrate the love of dogs down at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. There will be vendors, contests, giveaways, and educational booths set up. If you want to walk or run register by 8am. Runners leave at 9am for the 2.5 mile loop across the Hawthorne Bridge, along the East bank Esplanade, and across the Steel Bridge returning to Tom McCall. The walkers take off shortly after. There is also a shorter loop for small dogs and older dogs.

Frederick, MD: Bark in the Park will be happening on May 12, 2012 from 10am to 2pm. It’s $5 per dog and a 2 dog per handler limit. The event is being held at Utica District Park at 10200-B Old Frederick Road. The afternoon is hosted by the Frederick County Parks and Recreation and your dog will have plenty of fun running free and off-leash. There will be agility courses, contests, and opportunities to learn new training tips, make new friends, and visit the exhibition booths. If you’re thinking of adding a new four-legged friend to your family, you may find him here. There will also be an adoption booth. Don’t forget to make sure your dog’s tags on his collar, especially his rabies tags. All dogs need to be up to date with vaccines to participate.

Madison, GA: 1st Annual Paw Wash and Pet Fest is scheduled for May 19, 2012 from 10am to 2pm and will be held at the Bark Park at Heritage Page located at Hwy 441 at Old Buckhead Road. Admission is free but if you want to have your dog bathed it’s $10. The money raised benefits the Humane Society of Morgan County. This is the first year, so help make it big! There will be food, drinks, vendors, and fun. After you wash your pup, check out the newest pet products, services available in your area, and other booths.

Long Island City, NY: New York Pet Expo will be at the Nassau Coliseum from 10am to 6pm on May 19, 2012. Admission is free. Bring your pet to the expo and meet Shorty Rossi, the star of “Pit Boss” on Animal Planet. There will be over 100 booths and rescue groups present and demonstrations throughout the day of agility, obedience, pet care, and other tricks. Enter your dog into some of the contests for a chance to win prizes and if you’re thinking of adding a new family member, check out the adoption booths that will have over 300 pets looking for forever homes. There will also be low-cost immunizations and microchipping available.
