Dog-Friendly Vacationing in Cleveland, Ohio

Cleveland, Ohio, is a city of about 478,000 inhabitants, and is located on Lake Erie. The proper city has a few dog-friendly attractions, but most of the fun is found slightly outside of the urban area, in the vast parks and nature preserves.

Attractions

Chagrin Valley Main Street

This is a cute town located outside of Cleveland, full of shops, restaurants and events all year round. Dogs can walk around the historical area outside on leash, but you must ask the shop staff it they permit pets indoors.

Cleveland Lakefront State Park

Leashed dogs are allowed to accompany you around this park, but are unfortunately not allowed in the sandy beaches or in any of the buildings. Don’t let that discourage you and your dog, as they are allowed to join you in all the other parts of the park. One nice option is the Cleveland Lakefront Bike Trail, which is nine miles and goes along the Lake Erie shore.

Holden Arboretum

This 3,500 acre area is located in Kirkland, Ohio, and is a huge, beautiful nature preserve full of trails, wildlife, a big lake, and assorted gardens. There are lots of activities to do here in any season. Leashed dogs may join you to explore this park, and there are waste bags provided throughout the trails.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park

This is a huge national park in Breksville, Ohio, taking up 33,000 acres. It includes lush forests, rolling hills and open farmlands, as well as rich wildlife. Dogs can join you throughout the grounds of the park, but they are not allowed to enter any of the buildings.

Outdoor Restaurants

Great Lake Brewing Company

This place is mainly a brewery, but they also have a restaurant area, where you can of course sample some of their beer. Leashed dogs are welcome to join you at the outer tables when the seasonal beer garden is open.

LaBodega

This spot serves assorted sandwiches, soups and salads, mainly for lunch and early dinner hours. They also have a large variety of vegetarian options. Leashed dogs are allowed to be with you at the outdoor tables.

Market Avenue Wine Bar

This is a trendy place for wine drinkers, offering over 70 wines by the glass, and over 400 by the bottle. They also offer a number of Mediterranean-inspired appetizers and entrees. Leashed dogs are allowed at the outside tables.

  1. The Lake Metroparks, east of Cleveland, are very dog friendly. Pentientery Glen is next to Holden Arboreteum. trails, water, and some planned walk Fido walks.
