Dog-Friendly Vacationing in Raleigh, North Carolina

Raleigh is the capital city of North Carolina, as well as its second largest city. Its nickname is the “City of Oaks,” due to the amount of oak trees around its premises. It is also part of the Research Triangle with Durham and Chapel Hill, due to all of the major universities located around these cities.

Because it has nice weather almost the whole year, there are lots of fun outdoor activities that are dog-friendly.

Attractions

Art Space

Art Space is visual arts gallery full of lots of interesting exhibitions and assorted educational programs for the community. Leashed dogs are allowed to go into Art Space if they are well-behaved.

Raleigh Flea Market

The Raleigh Flea Market is located on the North Carolina fairgrounds, and has been going on since 1971. Tens of thousands of shoppers head to this flea market every weekend, which happens every Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM. There is free parking and admission. The market has over 600 vendors who sell antiques, furniture, clothing jewelery and other items. Leashed dogs are allowed to shop at the market with their owners.

City Market

City Market is located in downtown Raleigh, and is a quaint dining and shopping area full of nice trees and lanterns. Lots of free art and music festivities are always going on here as well. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout the streets and common areas of this shopping center, but you must ask the people at the individual businesses if they allow dogs inside.

Raleigh Little Theater Rose Garden

This Rose Garden is located in back of the Raleigh Little Theater. The best time to go is between May and early Fall, because there are lots of nice flowers and other interesting plants. Leashed dogs are welcomed at this site.

Parks

Mordecai Historic Park

Mordecai Historic Park is located in downtown Raleigh, on the corners of Wake Forest and Mimosa Streets. It is home to the Mordecai Mansion and some other historic structures. There are also some nice gardens. Dogs are allowed throughout the grounds, but not in any of the buildings. They are required to be on leash.

Outdoor Restaurants

101 Cafe + Lounge

The 101 Cafe + Lounge serves healthy breakfast, lunch and some late-night foods. They are a trendy and artsy place located in downtown Raleigh. Leashed dogs can sit at the outdoor tables.

Cameron Bar & Grill

The Cameron Bar & Grill is full of American-style bar foods, sandwiches, soups and entrees. Leashed dogs can sit at the outdoor tables.

Raleigh Times Bar

The Raleigh Times Bar is located in a 100 year old building, and serves assorted drinks and bar foods. Leashed dogs can sit at the outside tables.

Lily’s Pizza

Lily’s Pizza offers pizza, calzones, pasta and other Italian specialties. Leashed dogs are allowed at the outdoor tables.
