Dog-Friendly Vacationing in Seattle, Washington

Seattle, Washington, is the largest city of the Pacific Northwest. It is a city of over 600,000 residents, and is famous for being a condensed urban area full of culture, great coffee and accessible nature. Many attractions and facilities around Seattle are dog-friendly. Visitors should keep in mind that it does rain a lot in this region, so they should be prepared to face the elements.


Seattle Center

The Seattle Center is the former grounds of the 1962 World Fair, which has been converted into a 72-acre urban park. It includes the famous Space Needle, as well as a large fountain area. Leashed dogs are allowed to walk around in the outdoor parts, but cannot enter the buildings.

The Center for Wooden Boats

The Center for Wooden Boats is an indoor and outdoor museum that offers hands-on maritime experiences and sailing classes to visitors. They have an array of historic wooden boats,  and leashed dogs are welcome to come check out the exhibits.

Pioneer Square

Pioneer Square is a National Historic District that is the oldest neighborhood in Seattle. There are many shops, cafes and restaurants located around its premises. At night, this area is famous for live dancing, music and other activities. Leashed dogs may walk around this neighborhood with their owners.


Woodland Park Rose Garden

The Woodland Park Rose Garden is open daily from 7:00 AM through dusk, and they have beautiful flowers on display from May through August. It is free to enter, and dogs are welcome as long as they are leashed.

Discovery Park

Discovery Park is over 500 acres in size, making it Seattle’s largest city park. The main attraction of this park is the amazing views of Puget Sound and the mountains. Leashed dogs may be in most areas of the park and trails, but are forbidden from the beaches, wetland and ponds.

Outdoor Restaurants

Norm’s Ale House

Norm’s Ale House is located in the Fremont area of Seattle, and is actually named after a dog. Though it is a bar, there is a children’s menu, and well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome outdoors.

Stumbling Goat

The Stumbling Goat is full of healthy and gourmet foods, with lots of meat and vegetarian options. They even have a happy hour. Leashed dogs may sit outside with their owners.

Maggie Bluff’s

Maggie Bluff’s is a famous Seattle spot for outdoor dining, and they serve breakfast and lunch. People go there for the seafood selection and the excellent view. Leashed dogs may join their owners at the appropriate tables.
