For me, New Year’s Day is a day to clean house literally and figuratively. I tidy up my house and also clean out old files from my computer, delete old emails, and also review bookmarks on my browser. I started using an application (Flipboard) for my iPad where I can bookmark websites I like to read on a regular basis and started a category I named “Pets and Stuff.” It’s, well, yes, you guessed it, blogs by or for or about pets. If you read blogs and social sites and have been looking for a few pet-oriented ones, check out the 10 blogs I am following. Some of them I’ve been following for a long time and others I discovered in the last year.
Ten Pet Blogs I’m Following:

Oh My Dog
This blog has practical tips on how to keep your dryer from clogging up from all the pet hair on your clothes, to product reviews, to basic tips and tricks for taking care of your canine buddy. There are also very cute pictures of Lucas, the dog, and personal entries of what it is like to live with a pup.

Cat Chat
Cat Chat is a labor of love started by a freelance writer and her tabby, Cody. It’s a nice mix of funny youtube videos, educational content, and book reviews. There are also cross postings from other blogs on here. It’s a very fun blog that often has uplifting content. Great reading after a long stressful day.

Puppy In Training
Not sure how to get your puppy to stop nipping your ankles? Wonder why he’s eating the walls? This blog offers some of the best tips I’ve seen around the internet about training your puppy or modifying the behavior of your adult dog. Colby and his four-legged pal, Stetson, offer tips, tricks, and advice on how to train your puppy and cover a wide variety of topics such as potty training in a city vs a suburb, crate-training, and how to make sure we are making our dogs smile… yes, they make us smile all the time, but sometimes we have to remember to go the extra mile to make them happy too!

Daisy The Curly Cat
This blog has a lot of awesomely cute pictures of cats and captions that capture their thoughts. Daisy is the main cat but she has a sibling named Harley who also loves being photographed. It’s not just pictures of them, though, sometimes you’ll find a few LOLCAT images too. It’s a quick read and can definitely make someone say, “Aww, silly cat!”

The World According to Garth Riley
The adventures of a dog one day and one blog entry at a time. It’s a photoblog, mostly, and you can tell Garth has a good life. His mom takes him out to dog parks, photos with Santa, and many other places. He sometimes seems skeptical of his surroundings but has a good attitude and makes the best of what’s around. Garth’s blog also has informative posts such as what to do to find your dog if he’s lost and giving to local humane organizations. All in all, a good blog that chronicles one dog and his daily adventures and gives back to the world. One woof at a time.

Jenna and Snickers
I don’t know how many years I’ve been following Jenna and Snickers. Snickers is a Shiba Inu and his mom founded the New York City Shiba Rescue. Together they have moved from NYC to Indiana to Mississippi. Each step of the way Snickers has given back to the community by holding fundraisers for homeless dogs, being a therapy dog, and opening his home and sometimes his dog bed to a foster dog. He’s a sassy little guy who recently turned 9 and held a birthday party on the internet. All the money raised went to the NYC Shiba Rescue. He’s that kind of pup. He’s also rather cute.

ASPCA Blog
I follow the ASPCA on Twitter and have their blog bookmarked because they are one of the best resources for tips, tricks, and also news when it comes to animal welfare. Their blog is eduational and informative. Legislative actions, disaster programs, and other information is posted to their blog. It’s not all serious. They also post when one of the pets in their shelter has found a great home and there are amazing stories of hope, strength, and courage.

The Dog Guide
If you’re unsure of the type of breed or skills or energy level you want in your new pup, this site is a great resource for learning about the general traits associated with different breeds. There are pages of information regarding the care and well-being of dogs. The blog area is mostly videos of dogs doing silly things, cute things, and being, well, a dog. You can get a very clear idea of just how quircky dogs can be by watching a few of them. I’ve been reading about the different breeds and in my experience, find many of the traits to be true.

Romeo the Cat (and Pugsley)
The subheader to this blog is “Rascally Boys Raising Money for Rescues” and that is exactly what Romeo and Pugsley do. Many entries are humorous and quite adorable and by visting the site money is raised that is donated to helping homeless pets find furever homes. Romeo has this awfully cute grumpy face and Pugsley tends to always look surprised.

Curious Animals
Want to see a picture of a mouse sitting in a dandelion? Or a dog floating in a pool? Then bookmark this website in your browser and check back often. It’s a photoblog of animals, not just dogs and cats, and many of the images are of animals checking out the camera or exploring something they’ve never encountered before like a roll of paper towels. Aside from curious animals there are pictures of products that we can purchase for our pets like a water bowl that looks like a toilet for your dog or cat… or a bacon costume so you can dress your dog up as a piece of… bacon.
