When the leaves have turned color and we’ve pulled out the winter blankets, our days are shorter and our pets are cuddling closer, Fall is here. This doesn’t mean that there are less things to do. November is full of educational, exciting, and silly pet events. Looking for something to do on the weekends when the kids are home from school, you have the day off, and your dog has some energy to burn?

Check out some of the events listed below and if you’re not near these, check with your local humane society and newspaper for local pet events.

With so many pet events across the country, this list can’t be quite comprehensive – at least not without your help. Is your pet event, or one in your area, missing from our list? Please help us update this list to keep it current by leaving the information in a comment below!

Canine Crime Scenes Investigation Class

When: November 1-2, 2014 9am to 5pm

Your dog can learn to be a super detective and solve crimes! You and your dog will be in small groups and attempt to solve a fun murder mystery. Handlers will show you to train your dog to retrieve, scent detect, and track. You’ll learn some advanced handling skills and know how to get your dog to find those hidden bombs, the drugs stuffed in a bag, and find that missing kid. It’s a hands on adventure and your dog will need to sniff out the clues!

32nd Annual Doggie Dash

When: November 2, 2014 8am to 1pm

Race or walk a 5K with your friendly pup and help raise money for a local rescue. If your dog isn’t up for a 5K, there is also a 2 mile “dawdle” where you can walk your dog. After the dash, browse all the vendors and listen to the local bands. Don’t forget to enter your dog in the contests: bobbing for hot dogs, paw print painting, and a photo booth!

Santa is coming to town! It’s time for your pet to tell Santa what s/he would like for Christmas and remind Santa just how good a pet s/he’s been this year. Cats and dogs will be photographed in separate groups. Call Natchez Humane Society to find out what time is best for you to bing your pet: 601-442-4001, especially if you have another pet such as a rabbit, hamster, guinea pig.
