There are some great pet friendly events happening this weekend that are guaranteed to be educational, fun, and good bonding time for you and your pup. Most of the events are family friendly and will give you all something to do if it’s too rainy for a hike or a romp in the park.
Houston Pet Expo
When: April 14, 2012 10am to 6pm
Where: Reliant Center, 1 Reliant Park, Houston Tx
Admission: Free, Parking is $10
Bring your pet to the Houston Pet Expo and enter contests such as the four-legged and two-legged races, shop for new toys and food, and get your dog a free nail trim. There will be prizes and giveaways and demonstrations from animal trainers throughout the day. There will even be a special appearance by Shorty Ross, from the tv show “Pit Boss” on Animal Planet. If you’re thinking of adopting another or a new pet, check out the several rescue groups and shelters that will have pets available for adoption. If you’re a pet owner or thinking of becoming one, this is the place to gather information, check out the latest gadgets and toys for pets, and learn how to be a responsible pet owner.

Great KC Pet Expo
When: April 14, 2012 and April 15, 2012 10am to 6pm
Where: Overland Park International Trade Center, 6800 West 115th St, Overland Park KS
Admission: $8, Kids under 5 are free
The Great KC Pet Expo will have more than 100 vendors with the latest pet products for sale as well as booths where you can learn tips ad tricks for better pet care. There is going to be a performance arena where dogs will do demonstrations of agility and tricks and contests for you and your furry buddy to enter like the Tiny Dog Contest, Ultimate Stay, and a Fashion Show. If you have been working with your dog to earn a Canine Good Citizen certificate, you can practice with trainers here as well. There is even going to be a lizard and parrot presentation for those of us who love them and want to know how best to care for and keep them healthy.

A Dog’s Day
When: April 15, 2012 10am to 3pm
Where: Santa Rosa St and Oak St
A Dog’s Day is part public outreach and part member outreach. Come on down and see some amazing tricks such as flyable demonstrations, agility rallies, and obedience tricks. The day promises to be filled with demonstrations, food, activities, contests, and educational resources for you and your pet. You can get your dog microchipped and take the Canine Good Citizen test as well. Learn about what foods to avoid feeding your pet, how to keep them slim and trim, and what to do with behavior issues like separation anxiety, thunderstorm phobias, and other things many pet owners experience.
