There are many dog-friendly events happening in September for you and your family to go to and have some fun, learn some new tips about pet care, and maybe even adopt a new family member. If you’re in any of the following cities, check out the pet events that are being held and maybe get your dog a fresh bath, or win a few prizes, or race your pup.
There are so many different activities for you and your pets to participate in. Here’s a few events happening in the next few weekends around the country.
Labor Day Dog Wash and Vaccine Clinic
Where: 3949 Dick Pond Road, Myrtle Beach, SC
When: Sept 3, 2011 1pm to 4pm
From 1pm to 4pm come down to the K9 Cabana Dog Resort and celebrate Labor Day Weekend by having your dog washed, nails trimmed, and maybe even get a caricature created of your pup. Cartoon sketch artist, Eric Grady, will be there and will draw your pooch for you. There’s also a mobile vaccine clinic where you can update your dog’s vaccines for low-cost.

Paws in the Park 2011
Where: Payson Park, Baxter Blvd, Portland ME
When: Sept 4, 2011 10am to 2pm
Admission: $15 to $40 depending on the type of registration
Paws in the Park is a dog walk around Payson Park and you don’t need a dog to participate but your pup may enjoy a day out and about. Proceeds from the event will help benefit homeless pets via the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland. Registrants will receive a gift bag, and be able to participate in some of the contests and other activities scheduled. The walk begins at 11am after registration. At 12pm there will be a number of contests such as Best Bark, Best Trick, Most Fashionable, and other fun contests. There will also be a micro-chip clinic, vendors, and various rescue groups on hand to answer any questions you have and also help educate the general public.

Dove Lewis Westie Walk
Where: Wallace Park, NW 25th Ave and NW Raleigh Ave
When: Sept 10, 2011 9am to 12pm
Admission: Registration is $20 per dog
Many West Highland Terriers will gather together in Northwest Portland for a 1.5 mile walk and will turn heads. Join them if you have a west or not! All proceeds from the walk benefit the Velvet Assistance Fund which helps provide financial assistance for low-income qualified patients treated at Dove Lewis. It will definitely be fun and cute!
