Flying with your pet can be stressful. There’s restrictions to when you can travel with your pet, budgeting and paying extra fees, and making sure your pet is ok in the carrier for long periods of time. Let’s not even talk about the security gate…

However, there are a few airlines that are making your trips with pets a little easier and a little nicer.

Jet Blue JetPaws
Jet Blue charges a fee of $100 each way for a pet as long as the pet can fit in a carrier and be stowed under the seat during take off and landing. The pet is considered luggage and can not be heavier than 20lbs. The JetPaws program includes a bag tag for the carrier and the chance to earns 300 extra points for flights. You can also book your trip online.

United Airlines
United Airlines charges $125 for a pet to travel. Your pet and a carry on bag are allowed in the cabin which is super awesome. If your pet exceeds the size restriction and has to travel in a different part of the plane, United has PetSafe. Petsafe has a compartment that is pressurized like the cabin and does airport to airport delivery with a 24 hour help desk. You can even track your pet’s plane and make sure everything is ok.

Virgin Atlantic
Virgin Atlantic allowed pets on flights but has restrictions for short nosed dogs and cats. The cost of flying with your pet depends on the size of the carrier, you will have to call and speak to a representative to get a more accurate estimate of price. However, the Flying Paws program allows you to earn points when your pet takes a trip with you. Pets flying to Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, and some other cities can earn 1,000 bonus miles if you sign up and become a Flying Club member.

Alaska Airlines
Alaska Airlines is a great choice for flying if you are taking a pet that is “uncommon” such as a bird, rabbit, hamster, pig, or ferret. Cats, dogs, and household small birds can travel in the cabin. Other types of pets travel in the cargo compartment which is climate controlled. Alaska Airlines also offer Pet Connect where pets can get a free health exam and discount certificate to Banfield Pet Hospital located in several PetSmart stores.
