Lots of amazing charity-inspired pet events are going on in Chicago and in the suburbs of the city the next couple weeks. There are also a few useful seminars on dogs and aquariums at the local Petcos.
Bark in the Park 16
This event will start at 9:00 AM and go on until 12:00 PM. It will be a 5k/3.2 mile walk to raise funds for the Animal Anti-Cruelty Society. Humans can walk with or without dogs. Registration will begin at 7:00 AM; advance registration for this event is $25 for adults, $20 for children.
Puppy Socialization Seminar
This free seminar will be at 10:00 AM, and you can learn valuable skills on your puppy’s development so it may turn into a happy, healthy dog.
Treehouse Bucktown Branch Adoption Center
This will be the first annual Kitten Shower for the Tree House Humane Society, which is a cageless, no-kill cat shelter. There is a $5 suggested donation, and there will be kitten shower games, kitten namings, fun prizes, coffee, juice, food, and, of course, kittens.
Things you could donate for the shower include: kitten formula, food, toys, nursing bottles, towels, blankets, non-clumping litter or stuffed animals.
Loose Leash Walking
This free seminar will start at 6:00 PM, and will teach dog owners different techniques on how to effectively walk your dog on a leash.
Freshwater Aquatic Workshop
This workshop will begin at 6:00 PM, and will educate people on how to set up and maintain a freshwater aquarium.
Strut for Strays
This three-mile walk can be done with or without dogs. Registration begins at 8:45 and ends at 9:15 AM. The walk will begin at 9:30 AM. After the walk, people and dogs can enjoy the Doggie Carnival and free refreshments.
There is a $25 minimum pledge before the event, or $35 minimum on the day of the event. If you give $50 or more, you will get a T-shirt and goodie bag (by registering in advance).
Tails in the City 6 Year Anniversary Party
This party will go on from 6:00-9:00 PM, and dogs and humans are welcome to celebrate the upkeep of this pet store. The party’s tickets cost $45 in advance, or $50 at the door; this is meant to benefit the Anti-Cruelty Society. The dresscode is “canine chic.” There will be an open bar, red carpet photos, a photo booth, a beauty lounge, caricature artists, goodie bags and more.
