AN EXCURSION TO THE TIP OF CAPE COD

Planning a trip to Provincetown but don't want to leave Sparky behind?

Gabriel's Apartments and Guest Rooms, in the heart of this historic community, not only welcomes your animal but also offers the discriminating traveler a lovely spa-like inn experience.

The owner, Gabriel Brooke, is completely co-dependent with her two resident animals; Valentine, a 20-year old orange winged amazon Parrot, and Oona, an exceedingly gentle one year-old Rotweiler. You will also find the town to be home for a diversity of non-human companions ranging from pot bellied pigs to Boa constrictors to dogs, cats and birds of all kinds.

The grounds of Gabriel's are lush and beautifully landscaped. The property offers spacious areas for guests to lounge on the sundecks after breakfast or read a good book with afternoon tea. The inn is conveniently located two blocks from the bay beach and is steps away from the Bas-Relief Park. The bas-relief sculpture seen here was first built to commemorate the actual first landing of the pilgrims in 1620 before they sailed further west to winter in Plymouth. This grassy area is a popular spot for dog walking and people watching -- remember your plastic bags.

"We strive to create a memorable stay that both our guests and their animals can enjoy," says Gabriel Brooke. "I founded Gabriel's twenty years ago with a mission of providing a safe, comfortable haven for visitors. Welcoming guests' animal companions is a natural extension of this philosophy. Pets enhance my daily life, so I know how important it is for travelers to be able to bring their animals."

Gabriel's offers weekly summer get-togethers for guests as well as a sauna, steam room, two outdoor hot tubs, VCR's and free video library, exercise equipment, bikes and massage by appointment. To inquire about a stay at Gabriel's call 1-800-969-2643 or visit www.gabriels.com.

Provincetown is for Nature Lovers

Provincetown's pride is its pristine nature. 90 percent of the town is actually comprised of National Seashore with several self-guided nature trails. This leaves visitors with large expanses of open dunes, pine forests and several salt-water marshes. The town's coastline is a thriving ecosystem of birds, fish, and wildlife.

If you really want to explore Provincetown it's best to park the car and Go on foot with your animal companion. Any way you walk will eventually take you to a beach. The towns shops, restaurants and galleries spill into delightful little neighborhoods and country like lanes for visitors to explore in a carefree, sleepy setting.

Some Parting Words from Gabriel

Bring your animal's favorite toys, food, dishes, leash, collar with ID tags, grooming supplies & medications. If your pet likes to be up on the bed, bring a cover for Gabriel's bedding as well. Maintain normal feeding and walking schedules as much as possible. If you are concerned about barking, a portable kennel can provide a safe and familiar environment for your animal especially when you leave your room. These measures will help adapt your pet to its new surroundings.
