Denver, Colorado is the capital and largest city in the state, on the confluence of the Cherry Creek and South Platte Rivers. It is close to the Rocky Mountains, and is sometimes called the “Mile High City.” Many people visit the area to go skiing or do other outdoor activities, and then experience a bit of culture in the urban area. There are many fun things to do with your dog in Denver, most of which are outdoor oriented.
Attractions
State Capital Grounds
The Colorado State Capital Grounds are a wonderful site to walk around, and the area resembles Washington DC. The grounds around the capital building are manicured and have many nice gardens and statues. Leashed dogs can explore the grounds with you, but cannot enter the building, unless they are very small and can be carried.
Larimer Square
This is a historic district that offers many restaurants and shopping spots, and is also a pleasant place to walk around. Leashed dogs can hang out in Larimer Square with you, but you must ask the establishments’ staff if they will let your dog go in their places.
Parks
Washington Park
This is a popular urban park that takes up over 155 acres, with lakes, flower gardens, a gazebo and a historic bathhouse. There are also hiking trails and large grassy fields. Dogs can go around this park with you if they are on leash
Lookout Mountain Park
This park is located in Golden, Colorado, and takes up over 65 acres. There are many hiking trails with scenic overlooks of the city and the plains. Dogs are allowed in the park, but not in the Buffalo Bill Museum. They can, however, visit Buffalo Bill’s grave site with you.
Shopping
Denver Pavilions
This is an open air shopping area that is located downtown, and there are over 50 stores and eateries. Leashed dogs are allowed to join you throughout the outdoor areas. You must ask the shop and restaurant owners if they are dog-friendly.
Aspen Grove Shopping Center
This is an open air shopping center that is located in Littleton, Colorado. This mall has scenic views throughout its grounds. Pet-friendly stores have triangle signs to indicate so on their windows. There are also clean-up facilities throughout the mall.
Outdoor Restaurants
Croc’s Mexican Bar and Grill
This is a Mexican restaurant that is located downtown, and serves assorted alcohol. Leashed dogs can sit at the outdoor tables.
The Market
This is a famous deli, located in Larimer Square, and leashed dogs can join you at the outdoor tables.
