Dog-Friendly Vacationing in Rochester, Minnesota

Rochester, Minnesota is located in the southeast of the state, and is home to about 100,000 people. It does get extremely cold in the winter, so the best time to visit is definitely during the summer, as there are lots of outdoor activities you and your dog can engage in!

Attractions

Quarry Hill Nature Center

This nice nature center is a 290-acre city park, and is open year round. It consists of a fossil bed, human-made sandstone caves, special events, some hiking trails and other recreational activites. Leashed dogs are welcome to explore this park with you.

Silver Lake Boat and Bike Rentals

Visitors can rent all sorts of equipment to explore the Zumbro River or Silver Lake. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on the rental boats, so long as they remained leashed when they are off the boat. This rental place runs daily from April through September, and then by appointment from October through March.

Off-Leash Dog Parks

Jean & Carl Frank Canine Park

This off-leash dog park is located north of the elementary school. It is not completely fenced.

Jean & Carl Frank NW Canine Park

This is a fenced, off-leash dog park with a water spigot, waste bags and separate area for small dogs.

Shopping

Miracle Mile Shopping Center

This outdoor shopping center has all sorts of stores and restaurants. Leashed dogs are allowed to roam around the common areas of the mall, but cannot go into any of the stores.

Outdoor Restaurants

Beetle’s Bar and Grill

This place offers food, drinks and entertainment. They have American-style lunch and dinner menus with casual dining for families. There is outdoor dining when the weather is warm, and dogs can join if they are leashed and well-behaved.

Chipotle

Chipotle offers gourmet Mexican food that is organic, unprocessed, and naturally raised. There are vegetarian options as well. There are a couple Chipotles in Rochester, and leashed dogs are allowed at the outer tables.

The Good Food Store Co-Op

This store has all sorts of natural, Fair Trade and organic options, and a good stock of bulk foods. There is an area outside of the deli, where leashed dogs can join you at the tables.
