Dragons at the Zoo

If you’re heading to Denver, Colorado anytime soon be sure to stop at the Denver Zoo and meet the residents. In time for Halloween, four Komodo Dragon eggs out of the eight have hatched and the babies are able to be seen in Tropical Discovery’s nursery. This is extremely exciting and should be great to see. Komodo Dragons are huge and can grow to be anywhere from 6 to 9 feet in length. They are part of the family of monitor lizards and eat mostly carrion.

The Denver Zoo has been in operation since 1896 and has undergone many changes and is now an 80-acre zoo with over 3,500 different animals to see. They have polar bears, leopards, rhinos, tree frogs, coral reef fish, emus, penguins, okapis, and many many more.

The zoo is located on 23rd Avenue (between York St. & Colorado Blvd.) 5 minutes from downtown Denver. Their next event is at the end of the month titled, Boo at the Zoo, a family event with animal demonstrations, entertainment, and trick or treating.

If you are planning a trip to Denver, this may be a great time to take a trip to the zoo and meet the new baby Komodo Dragons as well as visit the city’s museums, shopping districts, and downtown aquarium.
