This year, as we commenced our research for great gifts for your cat-loving dad, we found that it’s not easy finding cat-related gifts for Father’s Day. We’re not sure why but we think there’s a misconception out there that men like dogs better. Or that woman are the true cat lovers. In our experience, though, we’ve found that men are as crazy about cats as women are and there’s absolutely no gender bias when it comes to felines.
Still, we had to be a bit more creative and openminded when choosing cat gifts for dads because there are less choices. In a few cases we may have pushed the boundaries but we think your dad would be thrilled with any of these gifts. In one way or another, they’ve all got a bit of cat in them.
So here are Petswelcome’s 2019 picks for Great Father’s Day Gifts for Your Cat-Loving Dad:
We’re not really sure what this game is about but we want to find out. We bet your dad will, too. That’s because it is described on the box as “a card game for people who are into kittens and explosions and laser beams and sometimes goats.” Also, it only takes two minutes to learn. What’s not to like?
Is your dad a surfer? A beach bum? Or have questionable taste in bathing suits? Then this is the gift for him! The only downside is that you’ll have to buy another beach umbrella and blanket to sit far away from him so no one knows you’re related. On the other hand, we actually think that these board shorts are so gaudy they’re cool. Very cool.
This sign hangs in the Petswelcome office. We love its distressed, primitive feel which looks great in any setting. Another favorite of ours is one that says, We All Need One Friend Who Understands What We’re Not Saying. That one could probably apply to your spouse and children, too, but tell them it’s about the cat.
We searched through a lot of beer mugs and this one is definitely our favorite. Hand etched using a chemical process, it will never chip or fade. Buy your dad a 6-pac to go with it and he’ll be in a very good mood for a very long time.
Cats Pattern Embossing Rolling Pin
Most of the ads for this gift say something like, Embossed Rolling Pin for Baking Cookies is a Great Gift for Mom! To that we say, EXCUZE us? We are in the 20th year of the 21st century. Dads bake, too, you know. Or, if not, he can dip it in ink and roll it on his chest for a great temporary tattoo. Would go well with the Cat Beach Board Shorts (see above).
Cat Books
There are a ton of great cat books for dad. Here are a few of our favorites:
How To Talk to Your Cat About Gun Safety
This book not only answers crucial questions about cats and firearms, it also tackles other difficult subjects like, Why does my cat need to use the internet? Can’t he just play with yarn like cats used to do?
Great poems by cats with titles like This is My Chair, Kneel Before Me and our favorite one that ends with the lines, ‘I gaze into your two kind eyes/And wonder, ‘Who is that?’
An illustrated profile of history’s great cat-loving artists, thinkers and statesmen, this book is sure to be one of dad’s favorite reads. From Sir Isaac Newton to Winston Churchill and Ernest Hemingway, this book reveals cats’ influences (and claw marks) on the greatest men in history.
Caterpillar Men’s Second Shift Work Boot
Okay. We admit it. We’re pushing the boundaries here. But there is a “Cat” in them. And these boots are awesome. Tough. Steel-toed. A certain type of father will covet them. Indulge him. That’s what this day is all about.
A vacuum? you might think. Why would Dad want a vacuum? Because he loves cats. Because cats shed. Because their hair has to be vacuumed up. Because this vacuum specializes in pet hair and doesn’t need Dad’s assistance. That’s why.
This game has all the excitement of Monopoly but with some feline twists. One of them is that your cat will beat you every time.
Cat Stevens: Tea for the Tillerman
Alright. This has nothing to do with felines but everything to do with Cat. If your father is of a certain age, we bet he’s still humming “Wild World” and “Father and Son.” Get this for him. He’ll hug you. On vinyl, he will hug you harder.
Yes, we know, Kat isn’t even spelled with a C but she’s still one hell of a singer. One of our favorites. If your dad has any appreciation of jazz or female vocalists, you won’t go wrong with this album. And the good news is, you’ll love it, too.
So Happy Father’s Day to all you cat-loving dads out there. We hope you have a wonderful day and that everyone (except your cat, of course) treats you with the love and affection that you deserve.
