Las Vegas, also known as the Entertainment Capital of the World, is well known for its casinos, shopping, shows, and dining. It’s also a pet friendly city and as you leave the main strip and head to the outer areas, there are beautiful houses, quiet parks to walk through. There are 5 dog parks, 9 community centers, and 4 golf courses for residents and visitors to use. 16th Annual Wag-A-Tail Walk-A-Thon
When: April 7, 2012
Where: Kellogg Zaher Sports Complex 7901 W. Washington Ave
Registration: Adults $30 Students $15 Children under 12 are free
Time: Starts at 7am
The Las Vegas Valley Humane Society is hosting the annual Wag-A-Tail Walk-A-Thon. It is a 1 or 2 mile walk with dog contests, exhibits, raffles, and a great opportunity to meet other pet owners and help out homeless pets. Your registration fee is tax deductible and your pet will have a fun day out and about. All dogs who participate must be at least 4 months old and kept on leash at all times. They also must be up to date with vaccines and spayed or neutered. You can register the day of the event or visit the website and register online.
Pet CPR Class at Paw Prints Pet Supplies
When: April 14, 2012
Where: Paw Prints Pet Supplies 1000 N. Green Valley Pkway #520, Henderson NV
Time: 10am to 2pm
This is a 4 hour course that will show you the proper way to administer CPR on your pet. There will be over 50 actions shown that can help save a life including how choking management, seizures, how to assess your pet’s vital signs, rescue breathing, snakebites, and how to restrain and muzzle. You’ll also learn what situations require immediate veterinary care. By learning these techniques you could end up saving your pet’s or another pet in case of an emergency. A portion of the registration fee will benefit the German Shepherd Rescue of Las Vegas. All those who complete the one day course will receive a certificate that is good for 2 years. Ink for Animals

Where: Mastermind Tattoo 3111 S. Valley View Blvd
Cost: $30 for a paw print or stick figure zombie tattoo
Time: 12pm to 6pm
The Zombie Squad, a group in Las Vegas that “defends” communities from the walking dead will be on hand at Mastermind Tattoo to help educate and stop the pet overpopulation problem in Las Vegas. Proceeds from the event will benefit Heaven Can Wait Animal Society. Merchandise will be on sale as well as artists who will tattoo a small paw print or stick figure zombie on your body. If you’re looking for a tattoo that shows your compassion and love of animals, this is the event to get it done. No appointments are necessary, just head down between 12 and 6pm on April 21.
