Heading down to Florida in January? Make sure you hit up one of these fun pet events. They range from dog socials to charities, and even a race you can run with your dog! You should enjoy the nice weather and do some fun stuff!

Pet Supply Drive

Raymond James Stadium

Tampa, Florida

January 3

This is a pet supply drive for the Humane Society of Tampa. It will be there from 12:00 noon-4:00 PM, at the entry gate for the Buccaneers vs. Falcons Game. It is sponsored by the Glazer Family Foundation. Bring supplies for those who need them!

Posh Pets in the Park

Ave Maria Town Center

Ave Maria, Florida

January 23

This is a fund raising event for the Humane Society located in Ave Maria, a new town just eat of Naples, Florida. There will be all sorts of vendors with all sorts of pet products, as well as adoptions. Other entertainment will include a dog agility course, a dog fashion show, raffles with great prizes, pet photography, food, drinks, music and more. Admission is free for all, and it will occur from 12:00 noon-3:00 PM.

Run for the Paws

Naples Municipal Airport

Naples, Florida

January 30

This is the fourth annual Run for Paws Run/Walk, which will begin at 8:00 AM. Registration is open now until 7:45 AM on the day of the event. It costs $20 per person before January 20, then $25 from January 21-29, then $30 on the 30th. There will be discounts for families and high school students.

It will be a 5k race that will start on North Road. At that location will be parking, registration, finish line and refreshments. Pets can race with you, so long as they are on a non retractable leash, have proper vaccinations and can run the whole way with you. You can bring supplies to donate to the Humane Society Naples, such as canned food (not dry), hand sanitizer or laundry detergent.

Dogs are welcome at this crazy event, which is a day of activities for humans and pets alike. It is hosted by Boxer Friends, Inc. It will go on from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM. Some of the activities include best dressed contest, bobbing for hot dogs, silly pet trick contest, best tail contest, dog massages, best howl and more. There will be a raffle with great prizes. Dogs must be well-behaved, under current vaccinations (with proof), and must get along with other dogs.

It’s autumn time in Connecticut, meaning it’s full of foliage and fun. This month is also packed with dog events! Make sure to grab a costume for your dog for all of the upcoming dog parades and costume contests going on!

October 10 (rain date: October 11)

This is an event which begins with a one-mile walk on Main Street. It will continue at the the Green, with music, food, vendors, crafts, microchip clinic, face painting, as well as dog contests such as best costume or best tail wagger. Dogs are welcome but have to be friendly, on leash and have up-to-date vaccinations. Make sure to read the guidelines for dogs. Registration starts at 10, the walk begins at 11 and contests begin at 12.

Second Annual Barktoberfest

Connecticut Humane Society

Newington, Connecticut

October 17, 2009

This is a family and pet friendly event, from 12:00-4:00 PM. Activities include a Haunted Trail for kids ($5 donation), pet portraits ($5 donation), flea market with pet supplies, baked goods and cider sale, reiki and vendors. Also costume contests for pets and pumpkin drawing contests for children. Pet adoptions as well. All proceeds go to the CT Humane Society.

Puttin On the Dog

Greenwich, Connecticut

October 18

This is the 22nd annual run of this event, which is put on by Adopt-a-Dog. It goes from 10:00 AM-5:00 PM, and is $10 for adults, $5 for children, and free for children under 5. It is attended by over 5,000 people each year, and is probably the biggest CT dog event. There will be 17 different dog contests, as well as cats and dogs for adoption, clowns, food and a children’s play area.

pitThird Annual National Pitbull Awareness Day

Edgerton Park

New Haven, Connecticut

October 24

This event is meant for the appreciation of Pitbulls, and will take place from 11:00 AM-4:00 PM. It was created by Jodi Preis, who has dedicated her life to the rescue of all bully breeds. This day is meant to show skeptics how beautiful Pitbulls are, despite their reputation.

Second Annual “Howl and Prowl” Costume Parade for Pets and People

Greenwich, Connecticut

October 31, 2009

The perfect Halloween Event! This parade will gather at 1, and then start at 1:30. It is sponsored by the local specialty pet store, Pet Pantry Warehouse and Adopt-a-Dog. All proceeds will go to Adopt-a-Dog. The parade will go down Greenwich Avenue, a main strip in the town full of extravagant luxury shopping, so all of the dogs in costumes will sure make a funny contrast! The parade terminates at the Delamar Hotel, and there will be a dog costume contest, prizes, and refreshments. Registration fee is $20/entry.

Dog Events in California

Going to California with your dogs? Why not take them to a fun event! They are a great way to socialize with other dog lovers, and most of them are benefits. Or, if you travel and leave your dog at home, come to an event to help and play with other dogs!

Carmel Valley, California
This event will take place on August 2, and it is $5 to enter your dog. There are competitions for some serious categories, like best groomed, and also some silly ones, like best dog/owner lookalike. It is a benefit for various youth organizations.

Summer Pawty
Los Gatos, California
Though this town is named “The Cats,” it will host a spectacular dog event on September 26. It costs $5 per dog, but humans will get a free gift and food and drinks. There will be some performances, such as by the Santa Clara Police’s Canine Unit, and even Dancing with the Dogs. You can get your dog sketched by an artist, and there will be vendors, fun activities and raffle prizes.

Wiggle Waggle Walk
Pasadena, California
This walk is happening on September 27, and is great if you’re in the LA area and want to get some exercise! Everyone and their dog is invited, and thousands of people show up annually to walk or run around the Rose Bowl. You can pat a donation that goes to the Pasadena Humane Society and SPCA, which helps out over 12,000 animals. There will also be dozens of booths that have bedding, clothing, toys and treats, and there are vet services and nutritional items.

Delta Breeze Doggie Pageant
Lathrop, California
Come down on October 3 and help benefit the Lathrop Animal Services. It will be $10/person, and activities include a dog parade, animal blessing and presentations. Also a dog pageant for Best in Show and Best Dressed.

Surf City Surf Dog
Huntington Beach, California
This event will go from October 10-12, and will have tons of dogs, surfers, families and dog lovers. There will be a selection of over 40 exhibits and booths, along with great contests like the Best in Costume or the Obstacle Course. It is a benefit for pet and dog-related nonprofits and public awareness. Huntington Beach is definitely worth checking out, being one of the most beautiful beaches in the state! If you or your dog get restless from the crowds, go stroll around the beach and watch the surfers.
