Lots of great pet-related events are happening in Oregon the rest of May, especially around Portland and Eugene. There are some great classes to attend, as well as the opening of a new dog hotel, a pug crawl, benefits and more!

This will be the 17th annual event put on by the Greenhill Humane Society. It will be a 5k run/2k walk for the animals, and you can register there at 7:00 AM, or register in advance. All of the registration fee, sponsors and pledges will go to help the humane society. After the run/walk, there will be prizes for the winners, and then some dog activities, demos, refreshments and contests.

Opportunity Barks First Year Anniversary

Opportunity Barks, a dog training and boarding center, will be hosting its own birthday party from 12:00-4:00 PM. It is a potluck, so people should bring their own food, and Opportunity Barks will provide the party with beverages, raffles and music. Humans only.

Foster Care Orientation

Pooches in the Pearl

This will be the first-ever Pooches in the Pearl, which will go on from 1:00-4:00 PM. It will be an afternoon full of canine education that is sponsored by many local businesses. This event is meant for dog owners to become more informed on being responsible to their pets and active in their community. Dogs must be leashed to attend.

OHS Pug Crawl

This Pug Crawl will go on from 1:00-3:00 PM, and is a suggested $10 donation, which will go to the Oregon Humane Society. People are encouraged to bring their dressed-up, leashed pugs, as there will be a parade starting at 2:30 PM. There will also be food, drinks and music.

Upcoming Pet Events Around Oregon

There are some fun and educational events going on during the next couple weeks in Oregon. You can take classes and learn how to trap feral cats or massage dogs, or attend dog social hours.

Caring For Feral Cats

This class will cover how to care for feral cats, as well as techniques in trapping, neutering and returning them to their trapping course. It is a free class that will go on from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM. RSVP is required.

Canine Sunday Playgroup

Well-behaved, sociable dogs are welcome to go to the Sunday playgroup session. The first group is reserved for small dogs under 30 lbs, and will go on from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM. The second group is for larger dogs, and will go on from 12:00-1:00 PM.

It costs $5, and there will be baked goods and coffee for the owners. Puppies must be at least 4 months old, and all dogs must be vaccinated.

This is an event brought on by DoveLewis and Dignified Pet Services. Doors will open at the Old Church at 6:00, service at 7:00 and the event begins at 8:00. It is meant for the celebration of special bonds between humans and their animal companions. They will light candles during this ceremony. It is a free event.

DO JUMP Show: Cirque de Chat

This is a holiday dance show for cat lovers! The proceeds of this show will benefit CAT, the Pacific Northwest’s Cat Adoption Team. This will be a unique show, as they will create a one-room feline circus. There will be trampoline furniture, flying human cat toys, and live music. It starts at 7:30 PM. Very avant garde.

Canine Sunday Play Group

This place hosts a Canine Social every Sunday. It lasts from 11:00 AM-12:00 noon. It costs $5 for dogs not enrolled in classes, $3 for dogs that are enrolled. Dogs must be sociable and under all current vaccinations, as well as over 4 months of age. For humans, they will offer coffee and home baked goods!

The city of Eugene, Oregon, has some nice pet stores if you’re around to do some shopping while you’re checking out the University. There are some standard ones, as well as a handful of great aquarium stores. There are a lot of health conscious people there, so this type of diet is extended to the pet food in many of the stores!

This store contains a wide selection of fish and aquarium supplies, such as lighting, calcium reactors, protein skimmers, live rock and sand, clams, saltwater inverts and more. They have a wide selection of supplies for freshwater fish as well, along with plants for tanks. They have a bunch of different breeds of reptiles for sale, depending on what’s in stock, such as Yellow Footed Tortoises, Chinese Cave Geckos or Amazon Tree Boas. They also sell breeds of birds and small animals.

Wags Dog Emporium

This dog store contains dog foods, natural treats from local bakeries, interesting toys, human and dog gifts, collars, leashes, dog clothes, bowls, beds and more.

Zany Zoo Pets

This store has been open since 1991, and retains the goal of educating people about owning their different pets. They offer local, family-raised puppies, kittens and small animals. There are also captive bred reptiles and exotic animals. They offer a range of supplies and food for all types of pets. They offer community presentations, as well as free weekend petting zoos. This facility is USDA and AKC licensed and inspected. They also have grooming for cats and dogs, as well as some smaller animals. They board cats (with up to date vaccinations), birds, reptiles and small animals, just not dogs. Prices vary by animal. You can schedule presentations with Zany Zoo Pets.

The Healthy Pet

This is a natural pet food and supply store that has been open since 1997. They claim that their products are meant to enhance your pet’s health. They sell premium foods, nutritional supplements, natural grooming supplies, toys, books, anti-flea medicine, and other safe things. Some of the cat treats include little biscuits that are flavored like dried mouse, rabbit and calamari! They have a large selection of dog treats, including mainly meat, chew treats and healthy cookies. Grooming supplies range anything from nail care to combs; supplements range anything from joint health to essential fatty acids.

Scamp’s Pet Center

This store has a good selection of fish, but is not known to be very good for cats or dogs.

Liquid Sunshine Tropical Fish

This is a good store to go to if you’re building up your aquarium. They offer a fine selection of décor items, and will give you advice as to how to set up your aquarium so nothing harms your fish. They also offer aquarium filters and lighting.
