Lots of really fun pet events are taking place around New York City and State. They include fancy benefit dinners, benefit motorcycle rides, feral cat information sessions and professional pet photography!

Spring Fling

This will be a dinner at a fancy restaurant on the upper east side of Manhattan. It costs $75 per ticket, or $80 at the door. The dinner will go on from 7:00-9:00 PM, and there will be open bar from 7:00-8:00 PM. It is meant to benefit the Animal Care and Control of New York City.

Trap, Neuter and Release: How to Help Feral Cats

Cold Spring Harbor Library

This information session will go on from 7:00-9:00 PM, where people can learn the basics of how to trap, neuter and release stray and feral cats. It is a free presentation, but you must visit the website to register in advance.

It’s My Bark Day

Freeway Dog Park

Rockaway Beach, New York

May 15

This fun event will go on from 11:00 PM-4:00 PM, and will have activities like games, raffles, a dog trick contest at 1:00 PM, off-leash roaming and more. There will also be some adoptable animals present. The ASPCA spay/neuter van will be there, and if you wish to take advantage of this, please bring your animal before 7:00 AM.

Dog Town: Bikers for Barkers Motorcycle Run Benefit

Southold Animal Shelter

Peconic, New York

May 15

This will be the first ever Bikers for Barkers event. All of the proceeds will go to the animals at the North Fork Animal Welfare League’s shelter. It will be a very scenic motorcycle ride through Long Island. Registration will be at the Southold Animal Shelter in Peconic, from 9:00 AM-10:00 PM, and then the ride will start. It costs $25 in advance, $35 the day of, and $15 per passenger.

Len Marks Fine Art Photography will be at Petport from 12:00-5:00 PM. If you purchase an item from the Little Shelter’s wish list at this store or make a cash donation ($10 minimum for both options), then you can get a 10-minute session with the professional photographer, and a free 4×6 print. You can get a photo taken of your pet or of your family.

Upcoming Cat and Dog Events in the NYC Metro Area

The New York metropolitan area has a handful of different pet events in the next few weeks. There is a workshop about what to do about feral cat colonies in your neighborhood, as well as dog training sessions and adoption events!

How to Manage a Feral Cat Colony

This workshop will last from 1:00-4:00 PM, and there is no fee. It will cover how you can assist and care for any feral cats around your neighborhood. It will tell you about some resources for food and access to getting them fixed. You can register by emailing: [email protected].

Winter Dog Fest

Nyack, New York

This event has free admission, and is going to take place from 12:00 noon-4:00 PM. It will feature a $5 nail clipping with “The Pet Barber.” There will also be a load of free activities, including free indoor dog training sessions with “People Training for Dogs”; free “Ask the Vet” sessions with Rockland Veterinary; free holiday pictures for humans and pets; and free dog product samples. There will be both indoor and outdoor activities, and this will occur rain or shine.

The instructors will educate you and your dog on house training, digging, chewing and other behavioral problems. You should see the store for more details. Definitely a good holiday gift if someone you know is getting a puppy.

Dog Show

Westchester County Center

The Saw Mill River Kennel Club and the Kennel Club of Northern New Jersey are teaming up for the first time and bringing these two dog shows to the Westchester County Center. They will have many different dog breeds on display, as well as some contests, like Best in Show, and Best Puppy in Show. It will go on both days from 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, and the winners of the contests will be announced towards the end of the day. It costs $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and children, and free for children under 5.
