I stayed for two nights (8/31/23 - 9/2/23) so I can attend a concert about 15 minutes south of the hotel. I booked the room from a third party site. Check-in was easy and the gal who assisted me was friendly. I was assigned to room 120. As I was heading out to my room, I noticed that all of the room placards that would be on the doors were in the interior window seals. I also noticed that some of the signage that should be on the walls were broken off and just leaned against the wall on the ground. The first thing I noticed about the room was the strong scent of sunscreen lotion. For me, it was a nice scent, but a tad overpowering. The room was smaller than I expected, but it was clean and looked nice. There was a new mini-fridge and microwave. Both had design aesthetics of the 1950s. The bathroom looked brand new. The TV had Direct TV connected. The most noticeable, and slightly unsightly, thing was the cords to the TV. The Direct TV box was screwed onto the wall and the power strip was secured to the wall also. It just looked untidy. The furniture that was out of place in the room was the end tables at the bed, desk, and a wooden end table placed next to the shower. All of these had the typical wear and tear of chips and scratches. One of the end tables had more damage. It looked like people didn't use drink coasters. Then started to break away the damaged parts of the surface. The microwave, an Insignia .7 cubic foot retro microwave oven (NS-MWR07R2/NS-MRW07M2), needs a "how to use" card. I could not figure out how to use it. The retro aesthetic is not user friendly. I had to download the user manual (page 13) in order to use it. The following morning, when I decided to take a shower, the handle for the water came off. I took it to the front desk and asked if they had any maintenance personnel. They didn't. The gal mentioned that the room was recently renovated/remodeled. The shower handle should be secured by a screw, but I didn't have an allen wrench. Thankfully, the gal at the front desk did have one after searching. Since there wasn't any maintenance personnel, and I needed to get cleaned up for the concert, I offered to put the handle back on. I am not sure if I am the first person in the room since the room refresh, but I think the reason why the handle came off was because the handle was not replaced during the refresh. The screw was difficult to turn due to lime deposits getting into the threads. So when the contractor replaced the handle, they must've thought it was secured. Other than the aesthetic issues with the furniture and the shower handle, I would stay at an OYO hotel again when I am on a limited budget.
I booked a room at this motel purely based on cost. I anticipated a rundown unclean room. What I got was a spotlessly clean, well maintained, and stylishly decorated room that was only a couple minutes drive from the highway with convenient affordable restaurants nearby. This was the cheapest motel I could find in the southern Washington state area around interstate 5. It nevertheless far exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it for anyone traveling on a budget.
