 Amos Brown House

Whitingham, Vermont

Sleeps 6 (3 bedrooms) · 2 full baths · 3-night minimum · Starting at $375/night, $2,250/week · Dogs allowed

Sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch, you may see more people go by Amos Brown House on horseback than in cars on an average summer day. Built in 1802, this brick cape-style home retains much of its original detail and is furnished with period furniture.

Amos Brown House is located in the town of Whitingham, in the Deerfield Valley in southern Vermont, half an hour from the Marlboro Music Festival, half an hour from skiing and snowboarding at Mount Snow, and 20 minutes from the shops and restaurants of Wilmington. Hiking, bicycling, bird watching, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling are all available by walking out the front door. The solitude and open space makes the house a peaceful location for yoga as well, indoors or out. Six miles away, the Harriman Reservoir features canoeing, boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing, and bird watching.

All of our properties include WiFi.

Up to two dogs are welcome at both Amos Brown House and at The Sugarhouse.

Add a Local Treat Basket for family retreats or working vacations at Amos Brown House! Real maple syrup, homemade apple pie, and more.

Testimonials from Amos Brown House Guests

“This beautifully restored house has afforded us some incredible peace, solitude, and total immersion in nature (bald eagle sighting!). Possibly my favorite Landmark Trust property yet; we have stayed in many in the UK.”

"This historic house is a gem, and we greatly enjoyed our stay. But most of all we enjoyed the quiet and solitude and the beauty of this old home and its embracing meadow and woodlands. " (Aug. 2016)

“The stillness! The quiet! And two children running in open fields with complete delight and abandon."

“We had such a great time at the Amos Brown House! The location was perfect. It was very close to Mount Snow, where we went skiing one day, and not far at all from some convenience stores. Even my 17-year-old son and his friend enjoyed staying at this old historical home.” (Feb. 2017)

"Hayfields tall and ripe, early in the week, behind the house. The hard work for Marty and crew began on Monday and Tuesday, and the bales of hay on Wednesday. Great to see them working the land and stopping to chat with us." (Aug. 2013)

“The Amos Brown House was magical, with the perfect setting outside and charm inside, it was like being transported centuries in the past.” (July 2023)
