Fort Lauderdale allows dogs on-leash in a large marked area of the beach. There are dog bags, water, and beach showers at this dog park. There is even a city officer on site to help with any problems and rule enforcement at the beach. The beach is close to the road, but officer and dunes are both between the beach and the road, so really, the only issue is parking. A one-weekend permit costs $7 per dog.
Large Florida state park...or most state parks in Fla-Birch State Park is large and has trails to run and an occasionl dolphin swims by in the intercoastal. Plus acces to the beach for dog days on Saturday and Sunday.
There's no better place than Sunday Jazz Brunch at Riverwalk on the New River in Fort Lauderdale. Once a month the park is transformed into a jazz spectacular. There are blankets everywhere and you can bring your own brunch or purchase from one of several vendors on site. Dogs are abundant at Jazz Brunch. Every size, shape and color. Local shops have bowls set out and everyone marvels at the mix of breeds in one location. They walk, ride in strollers along the river, chill and listen to the music or go after the ever popular frisbee! It's the first Sunday of each month. This is an almost two-mile linear walk through the park, along the water and near shops, restaurants, and world-class museums. Pooper-scoopers frequent the park for convenience.
