Brooklyn - Pet-Friendly Places

Great beer bar in Brooklyn. They have a small pet-friendly garden patio in the back and great deals on craft beers. I love coming here for the beer and quite often one can find a dog or two running around picking stray pieces of the popcorn they offer free to customers off the floor.

You can lift a glass of one of Brooklyn Brewery's many offerings with your pooch in tow at one of the tables at their pet-friendly outdoor seating area.

Named for the mile-long tidal strait between Brooklyn and Governor's Island, Buttermilk Channel is located in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood of Brooklyn, and is open for lunch during the week, brunch on the weekend, and dinner all week long. The menu is fabulously eclectic, with mouthwatering choices like Roasted Wild Boar Ribs, Duck Meatloaf, and Warm Lamb and Romaine Salad. Enjoy it all with your canine at one the tables on their pet-friendly sidewalk patio.

Voted one of New York City's best dive bars by Gothamist, Canal Bar is located in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn. You can enjoy your tipple (no food is served) with your pooch at one of the tables at their pet-friendly outdoor seating.

Prospect Park, the Central Park of Brooklyn, has off-leash hours from 9pm -9am in the Middle and Upper Long Meadow, Nethermead, and Peninsula areas of the park. Dogs are allowed elsewhere in the park (excepting the playgrounds, zoo, bathing areas, ponds, and sports areas) so long as they are on a 6-foot leash. Several dog drinking fountains have even been installed at the base of existing drinking fountains. Dogs and their owners can be found there every morning, but weekends the numbers are in the hundreds. The first Saturday of each month FIDO, a local dog owners' advocacy group, sponsors the Prospect Park Bark, with treats for both the 2- and 4-legged participants.

Fantastic neighborhood dive bar located in East Williamsburg that also serves barbecue. Very dog friendly (they offer treats at the bar) and there is also pet-friendly outdoor seating.

Shake Shack is dog-friendly, and pups can enjoy a Pooch-ini frozen treat or a bag of doggie biscuits.

You can find this Shake Shack in the Brooklyn neighborhood of DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass). Shake Shack offers a dog menu that includes the Pooch-ini (a combo of dog biscuits, peanut butter, and custard) and Bag o' Bones, five biscuits made for Shake Shake by Bocce Bakery.

Located directly across the street from the Barclays Center, this outpost of Shake Shack is pet friendly, with its very own dog menu. You can treat your canine to a Pooch-ini, a combo of dog biscuits, peanut butter sauce, and vanilla custard. Or go for a Bag o' Bones, five dog biscuits, made for Shake Shake by Bocce Bakery in NYC.

We love this self-proclaimed dog-friendly locals bar in Williamsburg. And even though it says "& Cafe" this place is all about the beer, wine, and signature cocktails. The closest you're going to get to food is the stick of celery in their South 4th Bloody Mary. But we're not complaining. Take a seat at one of their pet-friendly outdoor tables and relax with your canine.

You've got to love a place whose motto is "Beer. Booze. Pool. Dogs." Located in Williamsburg, this is most definitely a hangout bar with a homey atmosphere. The food offered is more of the snacky kind, like Frito pie (chili served in an open bag of Fritos--c'mon, what else could it be?), but does the trick. You and your pooch are welcome to enjoy it together at one of the outdoor pet-friendly tables.

A great local bar in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. They've got a nice pet-friendly backyard space where you and your pooch are welcome to sit, relax, and bend an elbow with one of their many draught beers, signature cocktails, or the prosecco they offer on tap.

Call it a public house AND pizzeria. They've got a wood-fired oven on site and produce some pretty spectacular pizzas, from a classic Margherita to one topped with pancetta, cremini mushrooms and sweet black garlic. They also offer a mean brunch, with offerings like Skillet Honey Lemon Ricotta Pancake, Shakshuka, and Truffle Eggs. You and your pup are welcome to enjoy it at their pet-friendly sidewalk seating areas with nice umbrella tables to shield you from the sun.
