This is just a short car ride from Chapel Hill. Located in a unique flat-iron-shaped brick building in the middle of town, The Spotted Dog (as it should, with a name like that!) has a pet-friendly patio that’s open year round. It’s got a wonderfully eclectic menu with lots of options for vegetarian and vegans, as well as devoted meat eaters. Some of our favorite selections include Carolina Crab Cakes, Radical Rooben (made with tempeh), and Traditional Carolina Dawgs, loaded with house chili, coleslaw, and onions. Water bowls are provided on request, and dog biscuits are offered for sale. Open lunch, Monday through Saturday, 11:30 to 5 p.m.; dinner, Monday through Sunday, 5 to 10 p.m.; brunch Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
