Located in Durham’s historic Brightleaf District, The Federal is a brew pub featuring 14 microbrews on tap from around the country. They have a pet-friendly outdoor seating area and are happy to bring your pup a bowl of water on request. The food menu is limited but tasty, and they have daily specials and a late-night Breakfast for Dinner menu. We’re partial to the Fed Fries, tossed with garlic and fresh parsley. When we’re feeling meatless, we like the Roasted Eggplant Sandwich on Sunflower Bread topped with smoked gouda and red pepper aioli. Otherwise, we’re always torn between the Carnitas made with beer-braised pork and the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich—fried buttermilk-dipped hot sauce-infused chicken topped with blue cheese, arugula, and tomato on brioche. Mmmm!
