If you're looking to relax on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, be sure to check out our pet-friendly hotels, motels, cottages, and bed and breakfasts.
When it comes to romping on the beach with your pet, though, the Alabama Gulf Coast is a tough nut to crack. You basically have a single option for shoreline play with your pup and that is the portion of the public beach on Dauphin Island by the Dauphin Island Elementary School. Your pet must be on leash and of course you need to pick up after him. Pets are not permitted on the West End Beach of Dauphin Island because of the nesting bird areas there.
You can take your pet (on leash) on the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail. Its 15 miles of trails wind through pine savannas, coastal wetlands, and maritime forest through Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, and Gulf State Park.
If you're going to be vacationing on the Alabama Gulf Coast, be sure to check out what's going on with the Baldwin County Humane Society in Fairhope. They've got pet-centric events going on throughout the year, including the Annual Blessing of the Animals, their Easter Bonnet Doggie Parade, the Krewe of Mardi Paws, and the Howl-o-Ween Parade.
