Arizona is also the land of the unexpected. Go to a beach in Tempe—yes a beach in Tempe! There are paths all around the Tempe Town Lake with doggie bag dispensers along the way. There's also a dog park close by in Papago Park. Then there's pet-friendly Tombstone—you can't take your dog to Boothill Cemetery but you can take him practically everywhere else. And while we don't want to keep focusing too much on dog-friendly bars (we go to museums, the opera and lectures whenever we travel), someone told us you'll find plenty of pet-friendly drinking establishments from Phoenix to Mesa.
