PET FRIENDLY Yosemite

PET FRIENDLY Yosemite

Yosemite National Park has strict regulations regarding pets in the park, but that doesn't mean you and your pooch can't enjoy its incredible grandeur. Follow the rules and you'll share a vacation to remember.

In general, pets are permitted (on a 6-foot leash):
•in developed areas
•on fully paved trails and roads except where posted (pets are not allowed off the floor of Yosemite Valley, including the trail to Vernal Falls)
•in campgrounds (except for Tamarack Flat, Porcupine Flat, and walk-in campgrounds), but may not be left unattended

Pets are not permitted on unpaved roads (see exceptions below), unplowed roads covered in snow, in the wilderness areas, in group or horse camps, on the shuttle busses, and in concessionaire stands.

Pets are permitted on the following unpaved roads:
•Meadow Loop and Four Mile fire roads in Wawona
•Carlon Road
•Old Big Oak Flat Road between Hodgdon Meadow and Hazel Green Creek

If you want to explore areas within the park where pets are not permitted, there is a kennel at the Yosemite Valley Stable open from Memorial Day through Labor Day (day boarding only, not overnight and food is not permitted while your pet is being boarded, because of wildlife concerns). You must show proof of vaccinations, your pet must be at least 20 pounds (though smaller dogs may be considered if you provide a kennel), and reservations are highly recommended. For more information, call (209) 372-8348.
