California Institute of Technology was founded in 1891 by Amos Gager Throop, and was originally called Throop University; the name changed to CalTech in 1920. Albert Einstein was a visiting professor there in the early 1930s, and the school has many illustrious alumni, including Frank Capra (yes, that Frank Capra; he graduated with a B.S in chemical engineering before becoming a movie director), Richard Feynman, and Linus Pauling. CalTech is also the home of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which is responsible for the construction and operation of robotic spacecraft, including the pet-friendly rovers (get it?).

In addition to a fantastic steakhouse-style menu, The Raymond has one of the loveliest pet-friendly patios we have ever seen. It’s positively magical, particularly once the sun goes down, lit up by a chandelier and, if the weather is a little cool, a blaze going in their stone fireplace. For lunch they have a wonderful selection of salads and sandwiches like Grilled Shrimp Panzanella and The Spicy BLT. Our favorites on the dinner menu include a starter of Northwestern mushrooms and salsify dressed with smoked vinegar and their 72-hour braised short rib served with a crispy pig ear salad. Open for lunch Tuesday through Friday 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for dinner Tuesday through Sunday 5:30 to 10 p.m., and brunch weekends 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Don’t miss stopping by this tacqueria for some outrageous food. Sure, get the tacos but also try the pozole, gorditas, tortilla soup, and Nachos Grande. And after a late night, why not start your day with a Breakfast Burrito! You and your pup are welcome at their pet-friendly outdoor seating area. Open Sunday through Wednesday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Thursday until midnight, Friday and Saturday until 2:30 a.m.
This is one of our favorite places for cocktails in Pasadena. Sit at one of the tables on their pet-friendly patio and enjoy a creative refresher like the Smoky Scorpion, made with mezcal, blackberry-infused rum, and passionfruit, topped off with IPA. We really appreciate that they also include nonalcoholic options, like the Blue Bee, seltzer mixed with lime, ginger, rosemary, and blueberry. They’ve also got 9 craft beers on tap. And if you’re feeling peckish, there are plenty of small plates to pick from—Korean Fried Chicken Wings, Crispy Chicken Tinga Tacos, Linguica Mac & Cheese, Harissa Hummus, and much more. Open Monday through Thursday 4 p.m. to midnight, Friday to 2 a.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 a.m., Sunday 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
This grassy off-leash park has a 2 1/2-acre area for large dogs, and a 1-acre area for small and special-needs dogs. Both have double-gated entries, benches, and doggy water fountains. Your dog must be licensed, wherever you live, and the Pasadena Humane Society sporadically spot-checks the park for licenses. Open every day but Tuesday from dawn to dusk.
CalTech is in Pasadena, just a short hop from Los Angeles, assuming, of course, you don't hit traffic. While you're visiting, there are plenty of great restaurants with pet friendly patios and decks where Fido is welcome to sup or sip with you. And The Raymond 1886 takes the prize for most beautiful, with an outdoor chandelier and stone fireplace that is ablaze on cool nights. The steakhouse-style menu includes delicious fare like Grilled Shrimp Panzanella and braised short rib served with a crispy pig ear salad.
We also love the Magnolia House for cocktails and fun small plates like Korean Fried Chicken Wings and Linguica Mac & Cheese.
Pasadena has two great dog parks. The Alice Frost Kennedy Dog Park has two very generously sized grassy areas for large and small dogs. South Paws-Adena Dog Park includes a doggy water fountain as well as a castle play area for the canines.© 2025 petswelcome.com, Inc. Conditions of Use. Please read before using this site.
