This is a private dog park that also offers doggy daycare. The dog park provides 15 acres of open expanse and plenty of shade for your pup to explore and play in off leash, as well as two ponds for water fun. For nonmembers, the cost is $12/day. Open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 1 to 6 p.m.

This off leash parks features separate areas for large and small dogs with plenty of room for your canine to run. There are doggy water fountains, shaded seating areas for pet owners, and complimentary poop bags.

One of the things we most admire about the school is Maddie's Shelter Medicine Program, which provides students and vets with the knowledge and skills to meet the special needs of animals in shelter situations; it also offers outreach services directly to shelters. It's funded through Maddie's Fund, a family foundation named after the couple's beloved miniature schnauzer.

If you're looking for a pet friendly place to eat, don't miss The Swamp Restaurant, a Gainesville institution. Their Swamp Starters include Ahi Tuna Tacos and Gator Bites (yes, real gator, served with mango-chili puree). They have an impressive selection of salads, like the Swamp Signature Salad, with grilled chicken or salmon, apples, raisins, and toasted pumpkin seeds. Or you can build your own burger or pick from one of their many tasty sandwiches, like the Argentine, with steak, grilled onions, provolone, and a sunny side up egg on a roll topped with chimichurri. Enjoy it all on their dog friendly covered deck.

We also love The Top, which offers a build-your-own grilled cheese and lots of vegetarian and vegan options. And we like that they have two pet friendly seating areas.

Gainesville has numerous parks where you can let your dog off leash, including Forest Dog Park, Haisley Lynch Dog Park, Northeast Dog Park, and Possum Creek Dog Park. Our favorite is Squirrel Ridge Dog Park, with 17 acres for your pooch to run and play, with separate areas for small and large dogs, a sand pit, lots of shade trees, and a doggy water fountain.
