You might not think that dogs and cars are a great match. But if you’re a car racing fan and own a dog, we’ve got a great way for you to spend some of your spare time—heading out to one of the 23 pet friendly NASCAR tracks to catch a race. And, as all NASCAR fans know, it’s not just about the race, it’s the whole experience which also includes making sure that your dog is part of the action.
Many of the raceways offer pet friendly infield tent and RV camping on-site so that you and your pooch can be in the center of the action. Tracks such as Talladega Superspeedway and Daytona International Speedway, Darlington Raceway and Charlotte Motor Speedway, among many others offer this option. And, if a particular track doesn’t have camping area, all the raceways have nearby camping you can take advantage of, such as the Raceview Family Campround which is just 7 miles from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Beyond pet friendly camping, many tracks take pet friendliness a step further and have special events dedicated to man’s best friend. Indianapolis Motor Speedway has Mutt Strutt in which thousands of dogs and their owners parade around the track to raise funds and honor the Humane Society of Indianapolis, known as IndyHumane, which serves nearly 10,000 animals a year, by offering low-cost vaccinations, adoption services and critical surgery procedures. Iowa Speedway also helps canine (and human) causes by raising funds via Hogs 4 Dogs to help the training of police dogs dedicated to bomb-sniffing and narcotics operations. Other racetracks have dedicated infield dog parks, such as Pocono Raceway, which even has an obstacle course where dogs can do some showing off, too. Texas Motor Speedway also has a dog park, the Puppy Pit Stop, which gives owners a place to let their dogs off leash.
So, if you’re a true Pet-trol Head—or just want to experience something new and fun with your dog— then we can think of no better way for you to enjoy yourself than by hitting a NASCAR race with your pup. Choose a track from our dropdown menu above to find not only information about the track but also pet friendly hotels, restaurants and bars in the area.
