South Carolina's Lowcountry is known for its hospitality and it doesn't stop with their human guests. We've found that the Lowcountry and its islands are very welcoming of their four-legged guests as well. Please check out our list of pet-friendly lodgings, whether you're looking for a hotel, motel, inn, cottage, bed and breakfast, or rental.
When you're talking pet-friendly Hilton Head and its sister resort islands, you're talking beaches and there is no reason to leave your pet behind when you're ready for some fun in the sand. Take a look at our pet-friendly guide to Hilton Head and other Lowcountry beaches to get the lowdown on the local rules.
Along with beautiful beaches, this stretch of South Carolina offers the opportunity for some out of this world good eating. Please take advantage of restaurants with outdoor seating, but you and your pet can also enjoy the local fare al fresco by visiting when one of their food festivals is happening. Two that got us salivating were the Port Royal Soft Shell Crab Festival that happens in April (the city shuts down the streets so restaurants can set up booths) and the Beaufort Shrimp Festival in October, which is held at the Bay Street Waterfront Park.
Finally, you don't want to miss the Bluffton Village Festival held in early May. Why? Because you don't want to miss their Ugly Dog Contest. If you think your pup has the stuff to make a gnarly-faced winner, go for it, otherwise, the two of you can cheer on your favorites.
