You and your pet have your picturesque choice of shoreline opportunities when it comes to the aqueous boundaries of beautiful Door County–beachfront on Green Bay, on Sturgeon Bay, on Lake Michigan–as they say, it’s all good (or maybe that’s just us).

Washington Island Beaches
You and your pet can explore all of Washington Island’s shoreline together; just be sure to have him on a leash. These beaches include:
• School House Beach
• Jackson Harbor Ridges Beach
• Percy Johnson Memorial Park Beach
• Gislason Beach
• Sand Dune Beach

Rock Island State Park

This 912-acre car-free and bike-free island in Lake Michigan offers 10 miles of hiking trails and 5,000 feet of undeveloped beachfront, all of which you can explore with your pet on an 8-foot leash. To get to Rock Island, take the ferry from Washington Island (pets on leash are permitted on board). There are also primitive campsites on the island but only sites A-E and 1-19 permit pets.

Newport State Park

With the exception of the beach area adjacent to parking lots 2 and 3 (the park’s main beach area), you and your pet on an 8-foot leash are free to explore the more than 2,000 acres of this designated wilderness park along Lake Michigan, including over 38 miles of trails and 11 miles (with the exception already noted above) of lake shoreline. You are permitted on Europe Bay Beach but the park rangers ask you to take care not to cross over to the beach that is part of Europe Bay Town Park, as pets are not permitted there.

Whitefish Dunes State Park

Pets on an 8-foot leash are permitted throughout its 865 acres, including the area of the beach designated pet-friendly south of the third beach access.

Potawatomi State Park

Located on the shore of Sturgeon Bay, the 1,200 acres of this park feature limestone cliffs that tower above 2 miles of rocky shoreline you can explore with your pet on an 8-foot leash.

  1. Baileys Harbor beaches do NOT allow dogs on their beaches. Signs are posted that say “no dogs allowed on beach or in water”.
