There are multiple schools that make up Harvard University, including Harvard Business School, Harvard Divinity School, Harvard School of Medicine, Harvard Law School, and Harvard Kennedy School. We have a particular affinity for the school of medicine, because they just released a report showing that dog owners have lower blood pressure than non-dog owners, and that having a dog might contribute to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Harvard is located, naturally, in Harvard Square, which is in Cambridge, an absolutely wonderful pet friendly neighborhood in Boston on the Charles River. It's a great town for walking, with plenty for you to do with your student and your pooch. For a stroll, check out both of Harvard's boathouses, the Newell and the Weld Boathouse.

For some off leash fun, check out the Pacific Street Dog Park on Tudor Street between Pacific and Sidney. It's got a water play area as well as benches and water fountains.

If you'd like to explore more of dog friendly Boston and leave your car behind, your canine is allowed on the T, but not during rush hour (excepting service dogs, of course). Your dog must be on a leash and cannot take up a seat. If you have a smaller animal like a cat or rabbit, MBTA rules are that it must be in a pet carrier and, if at all possible, you should keep the carrier on your lap.

There are lots of dog friendly restaurants in Cambridge. The Automatic on Hampshire Street is a favorite. It's run by Chris Schlesinger, who had the East Coast Grill for years, also in Cambridge.
