Friendly staff

So I stayed here twice now 2 weeks apart. I'm probably going to continue to come here because of the price. But the first time I felt like bugs were biting me while I slept. The second time there was a used soap bar still in the shower. Also the shower didn't have shampoo and they coffee had not been refilled in the room. The bedding very yellow. It doesn't give a clean feeling. The breakfast was okay. But the creamer which are the little pods went bad and was chunky. I do like the the AC works beautifully and there is a fridge.

I don’t know where the rooms in the picture were but my room was dark and musty smelling. Thought maybe it was because the air was off but after turning it on and leaving for our outing, it was the same when we came back. No security lock on the door had to push a chair against the door as the door didn’t seem to lock very well. Mold on the floor in the bathroom and the sink stopper was broke. Carpet had a decent size hole in it. Have to say the bed was comfortable despite all else. I did speak to a male at the desk the next day but he didn’t seem too concerned or responsive and I couldn’t cancel as we had bought it through a third party. The breakfast in the morning was ice cold and when we told the woman at the desk about it she was rather rude and dismissive. Needless to say we checked out early.

The appearance of the facilities were decent and I was hopeful that based on reviews, the rooms would be clean. The mattress was stained and the rooms need to be vacuumed along the baseboards and corners. There was fecal matter on the outside of the toilet. Whereas otherwise it appeared clean, with those things missed, it made us question how details like this could be missed if cleaning had been thorough. Front desk and housekeeping were very helpful and kind. We were offered a different room, and was able to inspect before being moved. Breakfast area was clean and well-stocked with standard scramble eggs, sausage and rolled pancakes, Yoplait yogurt, Quaker oatmeal packets and apples, juice. Coffee was just OK. Building outside was clean and well-maintained. Best part was friendly staff and decent price. Just need to be more thorough with cleaning and waterproof mattress protection.

This review isn't totally fair as I rated all questions super low - and I never even went inside this hotel. It could be super clean inside, for all I know. Here's the deal - I was traveling (female) alone that day and booked a room here, figuring it would be fine given it was a national hotel chain, located right next to a university. Plus, the photos looked decent enough and Big Rapids is generally lovely, from what little I know. When I arrived however (after already paying, which was a STUPID mistake as I should have driven by the hotel first to scout it out), the place seemed so sketchy that I didn't even want to exit my car. There were security shields covering all the hotel windows and there was a weird crowd milling about outside; some going back and forth from the liquor store next door. One creepy guy circled my car a few times and gave me an odd look and that was it for me...I pulled away and didn't even bother to check in. It just didn't feel safe, for me, and I had to trust my instincts in the moment.

We booked a room here. My husband checked in and then met us for food and shopping. We were gone for several hours. When we got to the hotel, I went to check the beds. There was dried blood all over the mattress, what looked like a dead bed bug on the mattress, sheets that had marks, food, tubberwear, ice pack in the fridge, and half eaten food in the microwave. We decided the room was definitely not clean enough to stay in, especially with a child. So we checked out. When requesting funds back, Expedia talked to the property and the property declined bc there were several hours between when my husband checked in at the desk and when we checked out (which we weren’t at the property for), & bc I had let my kid use the bathroom while I checked beds. The property had the parking lot being worked on, so we had to figure out how to get in. Overall very VERY disgusted with this facility!

Not much amenities were included

The outside carpet is not regularly vacuumed. 3-days. The glass of the closet door was cracked. The shower couldn’t be turned off completely. Drip, drip! The bathtub stopper was broken and didn’t work. The coffee machine appeared unclean as was removed from any electrical outlet. The male staff were short and rude when answering the phone and always hung up quickly without saying “Goodbye!” The ladies in the office were very pleasant face-to-face. The place just looks old and rundown. So sad!
