California Pet Friendly Lodgings
PET FRIENDLY California
California, the country’s most popular state, is known for its cool vibe and laidback lifestyle. After all, it’s where the Frisbee, juke boxes, fortune cookies, Barbie, Apple Computers, Martinis, popsicles and blue jeans originated. It’s also known for its extreme pet friendliness in cities like San Diego, Los Angeles, Carmel and San Francisco. Speaking of San Francisco, did you know that it has more dogs than children? That’s a good sign if you’re heading to the Golden State with your favorite animal in tow and are looking for things to do. You can hit Golden Gate Park with more than a 1,000 acres of playgrounds, lakes and trails, as well as designated Dog Play Areas. Or you can hit the Barbary Coast Trail, which is a 3.8 walking tour that connects the city’s best historic sites. The options are endless. If you’re looking to get away from the coast, you can head for Mammoth Lakes which has plenty of national forest land for beautiful off-leash excursions, including the only part of the John Muir Trail that is pet friendly. You can also get to the 11,000+ foot summit of Mammoth Mountain courtesy of a gondola ride that doesn’t charge for your dog.
There are also great vacation destinations in California such as the California North Coast, with its incredible pet friendly beaches all along Highway 101, stretching from the Crescent City Beaches to the Point Reyes National Seashore above San Francisco. Other great destinations to hit with your pet are Yosemite National Park which allows pets on most fully paved trails and in many campgrounds. Also Napa Valley where you can sample great wines in their many pet friendly vineyards. Sonoma Valley has a ton of pet friendly vineyards, as well.
From San Ysidro on the southern border with Mexico all the way up to Cole near the Oregon border, you will find plenty of things to do and places to stay in pet crazy California.
