August is a great time to plan a trip in the US that includes not just your human family, but your pets as well. Summer events are at their peak, with lots of things taking place outdoors, which always makes it easier to bring your dog along to join in the fun.
Of course, there are also events going on in August that cater specifically to pets and their people. Here’s a rundown of some of the pet events in the US in August around which you might just want to plan a vacation.

There are a lot of great family activities this August happening across the states. If you aren’t near any of the cities listed, check with your local humane society to see what events are happening near you. David Rosenfelt Book Signing
David Rosenfelt will be signing his two books: Unleashed and Dog Tripping on August 3, 2013. He and his wife have 27 dogs. 14 years ago David & his wife started the Tara Foundation, named in the honor of the greatest Golden Retriever the world has ever known. His home quickly became a sanctuary for those dogs that are too old or sickly to be wanted by others. His writings include what it is like to be surrounded by so many loving dogs and the insanity that comes with it too. Come on down and listen to him tell a few tales and get your book signed. Plus proceeds go to the Animal Friends for Education & Welfare group.
Austin Pet Expo
BRING YOUR PET to the Austin Pet Expo! Shorty Rossi, star of “Pit Boss” on Animal Planet will be there as well as hundreds of vendors and educational pet experts. Want to find the latest and greatest pet toys? Maybe a new diet that will help your pet live a happy, healthy long life? Or maybe you just want to see some amazing pets do amazing tricks. Whatever your reasons, spend the day at the expo. It’s indoors and a great place for the whole family to play.
Paws In the Grove Doggie Dash
When: August 3, 2013 9am to 3pm

Hotels in Portland, OR
This is a fundraising event for the senior community center. There will be over 30 vendors and demonstrations by the Deaf Dogs of Oregon. Come on down and watch the demonstrations, eat some great food, and listen to some live music. If you want to register to be part of the dash, you’ll receive a goodie bag, bandana, and number to wear as you cross the finish line of the 1 or 2 mile run/walk.
Feline Fashion Fun for Everyone!
Join Bideawee and Matilda, the Algonquin Hotel’s resident cat, for the Algonquin Hotel Cat Party, presented by Nikki Moustaki, Pet Style Expert and Author. The evening will include a feline fashion show by Ada Nieves for Pets and a mobile pet adoption van in case your home needs some more furry love. You may also get to meet the infamous Matilda at the hotel!
Pull out your tie-dye shirt and get ready for this rocking event. There will be raffles, vendors, and prizes given away. The SPCA will have an on-site adoption clinic if you need to add a new loving pet to your home and discounted dog baths, nail trims, teeth brushing, and other spa-like services for your dog. It’ll be a great day and way to spend time together with the family.
Ann Arbor Pet Fest
Over 100 booths and vendors will be at the Ann Arbor Pet Fest. It’s the largest festival in the southeast Michigan area and boasts attendance of easily over 3,000 people. The money raised benefits several non-profit rescues in the area. Come on by and check out the great vendors, food, and educational booths. Bring your pup and win some prizes, meet some trainers, and have a day of fun!
Scrub-A-Mutt Fundraising Dog Wash

It’s summer and that means your dog probably has been getting dirty running around the dog parks, hiking with you, and laying in the grass. Why not give her/him a bath? Join the 6th annual dog wash at Strawberry Fields. 100% of the donations benefits the Snohomish County Pet Rescue Groups. Dog washing and nail trims begin at 11am. There will be vendors selling popcorn, ice cream, and more. While your dog is being washed watch the demonstrations, grab an iced americano, and enjoy the day with other pet lovers!
Long Beach Animal Care – Low Cost Vaccine Clinic
On a monthly basis, Long Beach Animal Care Services offers low-cost clinics around the city. This month, you can have your pet vaccinated and microchipped at a deep discount over in Stearns Champoin Park. Pet owners must be 18 years or older. All pets must be on leashes or in carriers. Only healthy and non-pregnant animals will be vaccinated. If you have a prior Rabies vaccine certificate, license tag or license renewal notice for your pet, please bring it with you to the clinic. Vaccination and microchip services are provided for pets residing in any city only.
