Best Western Pet Policies & Information

Best Western International (BWI) is the world's largest Hotel Chain with 18 different brands that comprise 4,700 hotels around the world. Within the United States and Canada, they have more than 1,200 properties that are pet-friendly. These pet-friendly properties are made up primarily of three separate companies: Best Western, SureStay Hotels and WorldHotels. For our look at Best Western International, we are going to treat the different brands separately based on the name of the brand, which is how most people recognize them. On this page, we’ll be discussing Best Western, Best Western Plus and Best Western Premier. You will be able to find other BWI brands, such as SureStay, under that brand name.

With regard to the different Best Westerns (including Best Western, Best Western Plus and Best Western Premier), they are largely differentiated by the people amenities and room refinements they offer, moving from mid-scale with regard to Best Western, upper-midscale for Plus, and upscale for Best Western Premier. Their differences do not extend to their pet policies which, in general, stay within the same range with regard to pet fees, size limits and types of animals.

Pet Policy

With so many locations and diverse pricing, Best Westerns are a perfect choice for you and your favorite animal to go on road-trips, weekend get-aways and extended vacations. All of the individual pet-friendly hotels that are under the "Best Western" banner have different pet policies but they generally fall within a relatively narrow range.

Overall, the pet fees range from $10 to $30 per night with the average being around $20. Also, many of them top out at a maximum fee of $100 per week. With regard to pet size, most of the Best Western brands allow pets up 80 lbs. and they usually allow 2 pets per room. While they all obviously allow dogs, many will accept cats and other domestic pets. Their stated pet policy often says that “Additional pet types (cats, birds, etc.) may be allowed upon the hotel’s discretion or approval prior to arrival.” When that is stated in the policy, we’ve found that they usually accept cats as well as dogs.

About Best Western

Best Western pet-friendly hotels are generally well-liked by Petswelcome’s visitors. Overall they have averaged 5 Stars for pet-friendliness, 4 Stars for human friendliness and 4 Stars for Overall Value. Their comments usually praise the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms and how well treated their pet was by the hotel staff.

Since different properties within the Best Western brand have different pet policies, it is important to look up each hotel individually to find out their specific pet policy so you aren’t surprised upon arrival. Many of Best Western’s property websites will indicate that “Pets may be accepted,” but not give any details. However, that’s not a problem. That’s because Petswelcome has contacted all the hotels for their specific policies so you can make an informed decision without having to spend a lot of time on doing searches or getting on the phone.

Best Western was founded by M.K Guertin in 1946. It started as a “referral” chain in which one hotel would recommend another hotel to travelers and call them to arrange reservations. Eventually, this loose affiliation became one of the best-known hotel chains in the world. More recently they acquired some unique upscale boutique brands which rounded out their portfolio so that they now cover every segment of the hotel market to meet the needs of the modern leisure and business traveler alike.

Best Western has also garnered many industry awards, including Best Western Premier which was ranked Number 2 in the Upscale segment in the J.D. Power 2021 North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Study.

With so many diverse pet-friendly properties covering all economic segments of the hospitality market, Best Western is an easy and dependable choice for pet owners looking to hit the road with their best friends in tow.
