Air France

Category 1 and 2 dogs, as defined by the French Ministry of Agriculture and Fishing, are not permitted to travel in the cabin, in the hold, or as cargo:

Category 1 dogs
So-called attack dogs which do not belong to a breed but are similar in physical appearance to the following breeds: Staffordshire terrier (pit bulls), Mastiff (Boer bulls) and Tosa.

Category 2 dogs
So-called guard or defense dogs, including the following breeds: American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, Tosa and dogs with physical characteristics similar to the Rottweiler breed.

Pets in the cabin:

Cat or small dog (6kg/13.2 lb combined weight of per and carrier) accepted in the cabin with prior approval from the telephone sales service.
Guide dogs are accepted regardless of their weight.

In addition, pets must be at least 15 weeks old to be permitted on board.
Pets must travel in a specific container that must respect very specific standards. It must be well ventilated and allow the animal room to stand and turn around. At no time during flight is the animal allowed to leave its container. The container your pet is traveling in is considered an additional baggage item and is subject to a fee.

Pets in the Hold:

Dogs and cats weighing more than 6 kg / 13.2 lb (max. 75 kg / 165.3 lb) must be transported in the hold.  They must be at least 15 weeks old and have all required vaccines in order to travel. When booking your flight, please indicate that you will be transporting an animal in the hold.
The captain will be informed that your pet is in the hold and will take the necessary steps to ensure its comfort during the flight such as lighting and heating.
When transporting an animal, please keep in mind that strict travel conditions apply, such as size of the travel container, materials, etc. On Air France flights, only hard plastic or fiberglass travel containers that are approved by the IATA (International Air Transport Association) are accepted.

In case of a stopover:

If your trip includes a stopover, please ensure that you have more than 2 hours between flights. You may only check in your animal for the first part of your trip. During your stopover, you must have enough time to collect your baggage and animal – and check them in again for the second flight.

Other Regulations do apply. Pets must have all required vaccines. As of July 3, 2011 any dog or cat traveling within the European Union must have a microchip.

It should also possess a European passport provided by and completed by an authorized vet, to identify your pet and to certify it is properly vaccinated.

Please note: For travel to Ireland, Sweden, the UK or Malta, additional sanitary conditions apply. We recommend that you check with the embassy of your destination country.

For travel outside the European Union, consider the regulations enforced in the originating and destination countries (vaccinations, quarantine, etc.).
