Visit Mount Baker with Your Pet!

The Mount Baker region of the North Cascades in Washington State is a beautiful vacation destination to visit any time of year. Located east of Bellingham, Mount Baker is part of the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, a major outdoor recreation area known for its world-class skiing, snowboarding, mountaineering and hiking.

Because the skiing is so great (the average snowfall is more than 50 feet per year), winter is the peak season (pun intended) for the Mount Baker region. Summertime is also very popular. But as we’ve discussed in previous articles, visiting an area during its “off” season offers many pleasures that, in our humble opinion, are preferable to those that draw the huge crowds. This is especially true when you have a pet.

We highly recommend heading to Mount Baker during the spring. It’s a great time to see the flora and fauna that cover the North Cascades National Park, as well as capturing glimpses of the 75 species of mammals and 200 species of birds. The park, often call the “American Alps,” is comprised of nearly 700,000 acres that include more than 300 glaciers, as well as old-growth forests and an incredible array of waterfalls. The Pacific West Trail, the Ross Lake and Lake Chelan National Recreational Areas allow pets on a leash, as does most of the surrounding national forest lands. If hiking isn’t your thing, you can simply take a leisurely drive down the North Cascades Scenic Highway to see plenty of what the area has to offer.

Another advantage of visiting a popular vacation destination in the off season is finding great deals on places to stay. Case in point: Mt. Baker Lodging. They offer  a variety of beautiful pet friendly vacation cabins. And, to make your stay even more memorable and economical, they are currently running a Spring Special—pay for 2 nights and get a third night at half price*. To that we say, Awesome!

Need a break from your daily routine? Then it’s not too late to make plans to visit the Mount Baker region of Washington State to see some of the most beautiful natural scenery in the world. So grab your hiking boots and favorite animal and get ready for adventure, exploration, inspiration and, of course, a whole lot of outdoor fun.
