Three Upscale Pet Friendly Hotels to Escape To

hotel paisano

Sometimes at petswelcome we choose a destination based on the merits of the hotel itself, rather than the particular city it’s in, or even the cultural, artistic, historic, and tourist attractions the area has to offer.  We like ensconcing ourselves in upscale pet friendly hotels and enjoying all the amenities they provide and then, if the spirit strikes us, we head out with our pets and explore the environs with no more forethought or planning than the recommendations of the always-excellent concierges these hotels provide. In short, on these type of trips, we like to spoil ourselves.

Depending on the location of the hotels, many of these boutique lodgings mirror their surroundings with regard to architectural style, decor, cuisine, as well as the particular flavor of hospitality they offer. It goes without saying that most of them provide the best amenities including great beds and bedding (important!), restaurants and bars, special weekend packages, modern gym facilities, swimming pools, spas luxurious lounges and unparalleled service. Many, if they are historic, have unique pasts themselves and learning about their own history is a great way to submerse yourself in your new surroundings. Unlike branded hotel chains, these upscale pet-friendly hotels have a totally unique atmosphere, vibe and individuality that will distill your experience and capture your imagination so that your trip will be fondly remembered for a long time to come.

Here are three upscale pet friendy hotels that we recently signed up and think are great:

Hotel Paisano, Marfa, TX

Originally built in 1930 and since totally renovated, this historic 41 room hotel offers an oasis for travelers heading to west Texas. And while Marfa  might not be as well-known as other destination cities, we think that makes the trip even more interesting, giving us a chance to learn about a totally new place that we have no preconceived notions about. Back in the summer of 1955, the entire cast of the movie Giant stayed there for six weeks, including Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean and Rock Hudson. For us, that’s reason enough to go visit. It also has a beautiful central courtyard, a sun porch overlooking a swimming pool, a fireplace lounge, an art gallery and giant memorabilia room. Pets under 20 lbs. are welcome with a pet fee of $20 per pet per night.

The Lodge at Cloudcroft

The Lodge Resort & Spa, Cloudcroft, NM

This beautiful 59-room pet-friendly hotel beautifully captures the essence and spirit of the Southwest. Well-appointed with rustic and antique furnishings that immerse you in the area’s unique history, no two rooms are alike. There is also a Lodge Retreat for larger parties that is made up of four suites adjoined by a shared kitchen and rec area. There is also the Pavilion with features 8 rooms of Victorian-style accommodations. You can also get in a round of golf on their own course and, after that, hit the Spirit of the Mountain Spa for a rubdown. Best of all they love both dogs and cats, have no weight limit, and charge a $25 pet fee per stay.

The Hayes Hotel

Hayes Street Hotel, Nashville, TN

As opposed to being historic, this upscale pet friendly hotel is new and modern and captures the hip and contemporary vibe of Nashville. Located between the city’s famous Music Row and Vanderbilt University and Tennessee State, The Hayes Hotel puts you and your pet right in the middle of all the action.  Since they love pets (cats, dogs, no pet fee, no weight limit, up to 5 in a room), you can be sure they offer all the creature comforts (get it?). These include king suites that hold up to 4 guests and mobility accessible guest rooms that have accessible bathtubs with benches. Be sure to hit the hotel’s Hayes Street Bar which offers local beers, custom cocktails and live music on the patio. And finally, take advantage of the VIP Pup Package which includes an Okra & Molly pup cake at check in. We’re not sure what that is but we can’t wait to find out!
